Job Description:

The Application Engineer – Automotive Manufacturing Industry Segment at Festo Corporation in Troy, Michigan will review mechanical design concepts and machine layouts; provide sizing, installation, and integration support for actuators, valves, and other machine components designed for clients in the automotive industry; assist automotive customers with the sizing and selection of valves based on layout and technical requirements; perform process reviews with customers to optimize manufacturing and assembly techniques and designs; prepare 2D and 3D CAD models and pneumatic schematics for integration into solution option drawings; determine the mechanical layout flexibility of control and I/O requirements; act as the interface between automotive customers and the company; integrate machine safety standards for customers; assess the commercial and technical feasibility of project proposals; provide training for automotive industry product groups; discuss I/O count and density with customers; prepare technical documentation to ensure client specifications are captured; assess actuator application requirements to determine the suitability of pneumatic versus electric drive solutions; and, prepare string codes for quote and overview sheets to outline technical solutions. 

Experience and Skills:

Required: Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering plus two years of industrial automation experience with automotive production machinery.  Two years of experience must include two years of experience in each of the following: 

 

  • applying and selecting valve solutions for automotive applications;
  • working in a sales capacity and reviewing mechanical design concepts/layouts for clients in the automotive industry;
  • providing technical support for the systems, machines, and processes used to produce automobile parts, such as fuel tanks;
  • working with vehicle power train machinery, resistance weld equipment, and/or industrial parts washers; and,
  • assessing actuator application requirements to determine technical solutions; and,
  • up to 50% travel required to client sites.
